Demi Moore Replaced By Sarah Jessica Parker In 'Lovelace'

Mary-Louise Parker not stepping in as Gloria Steinem in the Linda Lovelace biopic, as had been reported.

A report from Us Weekly on Friday (January 27) claimed that "Weeds" star Mary-Louise Parker was stepping in to replace Demi Moore in "Lovelace." However, according to a press release, a different Parker — Sarah Jessica Parker — will step in for Moore as Gloria Steinem in the Linda Lovelace biopic.

Moore dropped out of the film earlier this week after being hospitalized for "exhaustion," and the search for her replacement began soon afterward. The film, which is currently filming in Los Angeles, stars Amanda Seyfried as the famous 1970s porn star.

On Thursday, actress Chloë Sevigny joined the cast of "Lovelace" as a journalist, sparking speculation that she could be the one to replace Moore. When sources confirmed to Us Weekly that Mary-Louise Parker would take the role of Steinem, this no longer appeared to be the case. Hours after Us' initial report, the film's directors, Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman ("Howl"), confirmed with Entertainment Weekly that Sarah Jessica Parker was Moore's true replacement, declaring the previous report erroneous. A press release announcing the news was sent to MTV News shortly thereafter.

Moore officially left the film Tuesday amid controversy surrounding her hospitalization, which a rep for the actress referred to as Moore's decision to "seek professional assistance to treat her exhaustion and improve her overall health." Since Moore's hospitalization, rumors have run rampant seeking an explanation for the medical emergency. Claims of drug and nitrous-oxide abuse arose shortly after word of the incident broke.

We reported on the award winners already, and now for the fashion awards. I have to admit, I watch the red carpet more scrupulously sometimes than the presentations (is that bad?) After having already acquired Napster here in the US, Rhapsody has taken its expansion one step further, with the acquisition of Napster International. Under the deal, announced today, Rhapsody will continue to offer Napster-branded services across the UK and Germany, as promised, and will eventually migrate Napster subscribers to its own infrastructure in March, with existing personal libraries remaining intact (Napster is already live in the UK, but has yet to make its official German launch). The move will also bring changes to Napster users' mobile apps and web clients, with Rhapsody promising improved offline playback and enhanced library management tools "in the coming months." For more details, check out the full PR after the break.

Facebook launches unified mobile site, announces 250 million mobile users

Facebook has announced that its two mobile sites -- m.facebook.com and touch.facebook.com -- have been unified, bringing a simpler mobile experience to Facebook users. And there are a lot of those -- a quarter billion, according to Facebook.

Smartphone users won't be losing any functionality because of the consolidation. If your phone supported the enhacned features offered by touch.facebook.com, the new site will automatically flip the switch when you visit.

Rolling the sites together helps simplify things for Facebook's developer team. Now changes can be pushed to a single site instead of two separate sites, which makes it easier to ensure that all mobile users receive a nearly identical experience regardless of the device they're using.

The new Facebook mobile can also check to see if your phone supports geolocation. If it doesn't, you won't be seeing much of Facebook Places -- which obviously relies heavily on geolocation. Images can also be optimized on the fly to keep page performance from suffering on less powerful devices. You can see the three different versions of the share button below, courtesy our friends at TechCrunch.

Kinect and Windows Phone combine to create holographic game engine (video)

If your life is anything like ours, it's in sore need of more pseudo-holographic helicopters. Fortunately, YouTube user programming4fun has come up with a solution, using Microsoft's Kinect beta SDK and a Windows Phone handset. The system, pictured above, basically consists of a Kinect and a 3D engine; the former tracks the position of a viewer and automatically adjusts the image projected by the latter, creating the illusion of a 3D landscape. In this case, that landscape happened to feature a holographic helicopter, which could be controlled using a phone's accelerometer and a Windows Phone 7 app (apparently called HoloController). Watch it in action, after the break.

The Power A Batarang Wired Xbox 360 Controller Is Your Not-A-Real-Batarang Deal of the Day [Dealzmodo]

So how do we feel about Microsoft and Sony waiting until 2013 or 2014 to put out their new systems? With the pace of phones moving so quickly, tablets popping out like companies have indigestion and even laptops becoming more ultra every year, it seems like game consoles have become forgotten technology. But! We would scream foul if xboxes and pee ess threes were updated every year right? Maybe? Probably. I'm just surprised at how much I still enjoy my Xbox still. I guess game consoles have evolved to a point past just games. Is that fulfilling their destiny or ignoring their strengths? I DON'T KNOW. I also don't know why you would buy a third party controller for the Xbox because the one that comes with it is so awesome. To each his own! So to you, own eacher, here's the Xbox Power A Batarang Wired Controller for $26. -CC More »

Paramount Movies lets you stream UltraViolet films from the cloud, for a price

Paramount became the first studio to offer digital versions of UltraViolet-based movies this week, with the launch of Paramount Movies. With this new service, users can purchase a film in either digital or physical form, and automatically store a copy of it within Paramount's cloud-based digital locker. This effectively allows you to stream a film to any iOS device, though support for Android and Windows Phone remains unavailable (as does compatibility with most set-top boxes). It's all part of DECE's "buy once, play anywhere" ethos, though it should be noted that the studio's UV offerings are somewhat limited. At the moment, Paramount Movies boasts about 60 titles, all of which are available at comparatively steep prices: $20 for HD quality movies, and $13 for SD versions. Check it out for yourself at the source link below.

AT&T's proposed spectrum transfer mapped out in T-Mobile magenta

Wondering what AT&T's proposed spectrum transfer would mean for T-Mobile? Check out the above graphic, from GigaOM. Created by a reader named Andrew Shepherd, this map displays which regional coverage T-Mobile will gain from the transfer, which was submitted to the FCC this week following the companies' failed merger. As you can see, AT&T is poised to sacrifice some of its AWS spectrum in some key markets, including Boston, Seattle and the Bay Area. According to Shepherd, however, the carrier only gave up enough AWS spectrum in areas where it had enough 700MHz capacity to fill the gap, without posing too great a risk to its LTE expansion. For a closer look, check out the source link below.

CyanogenMod 7.0 now stable, released for over 30 Android devices

It's official, folks! CyanogenMod 7 is now deemed stable enough to be called, well, stable. The ROM is available now for your flashing pleasure on over 30 devices -- including some tablets. Don't worry, it doesn't disappoint; I've been using it through the development process for months and it's well worth the wait.

If you haven't been following the updates on its progress, here's a quick recap: It's based on Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread, it's got built-in root access with all the command-line goodies, Apps2SD capability (built-in), Incognito Mode for the Android Browser, built-in CPU frequency adjustment and scaling (including overclock and choice of governor), loads of UI improvements and interface tweaks, OpenVPN and SIP calling settings, USB/WiFi/Bluetooth tethering, FLAC support, an FM Radio player, and loads of other features and enhancements.

It's even got a one-click UI theme-switcher that T-Mobile helped develop (open-source, no less).

Even if you aren't into flashing custom ROMs on your expensive new smartphone, you have to admit that this release is a pretty great thing... After all, it means a fully-functional version of Android 2.3.3 is now running, with loads of bells and whistles, on about 30 devices whose manufacturers and carriers are simply too lazy to update.

Alright, enough jabbering. You can learn more about the ROM at CyanogenMod.com, or jump straight to the download mirror if you already know what you're doing!
